(CALEDON, ON) – Environment Canada reports a snow squall and wind chill warning in effect for the Caledon area for today’s date. Local snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are possible. Blowing snow with west winds 40 km/hr. gusting to 60 may cause visibility with near whiteout conditions are expected, especially in exposed areas.
The Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) wishes to remind residents to be mindful of live wires, fallen trees or limbs that are imminent of falling.
Watch out for snow removal vehicles on roads and sidewalks. Significant snowfalls commonly cause an increase in automobile collisions, power outages and medical emergencies. Residents are also reminded to locate and make use of their 72-hour emergency kit if needed.
The kit should include:
• Flashlight and spare batteries
• Radio or crank radio
• First aid kit
• Non-perishable food items, bottled water
• Candles and matches or lighter
• Extra car keys and cash
• Important papers (identification for all family members, insurance papers)
• Blankets and sleeping bags
• Personal supplies
