(CALEDON, ON) – The ongoing investigation into the murder of Sonia VARASCHIN who was 42-years old at the time of her death is continuing under the direction of Detective Inspector Tracy Dobbin of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

On Monday, August 30, 2010 members of the Orangeville Police Service (OPS) commenced an investigation into the disappearance of Sonia VARASCHIN after she failed to show up for work as expected on that date.

On Sunday, September 5, 2010, a Caledon citizen contacted the OPP after discovering human remains, which were later identified as being Sonia VARASCHIN in a rural area of the Town of Caledon.

For the past three years, Detectives from both the OPP and the OPS have been actively working to identify the person or persons responsible for Sonia VARASCHIN’s murder.

The OPP is offering a reward in the amount of 50 thousand dollars ($50,000) for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Sonia VARASCHIN.

“The OPP and the OPS are as actively engaged in this investigation, and we are as committed to finding Sonia VARASCHIN’s killer today as we were when it began in 2010. We are determined to bring justice to Sonia and her family” said CIB Detective Inspector Dobbin. “We are confident that offering this reward may rekindle someone’s memory regarding this case to come forward with a crucial piece of information that will make that difference. No tip is too trivial no matter how small or insignificant you may think it is. You could hold the key that makes the difference”, she added.
